Agree with most of your points. Upfront we have struggled, but the with exception of the Bulls game, the young pack has been competitive. Hopefully they will harden and gain experience. Dont think we have the finances to attract big name experienced players. Since the departure of Fav, we have not had a no9 who looked close to being international class, and it does not look like we are interested in developing one. Reynolds has aspects on his game to work on, but seems one of the few inside backs with the ability to breach the defense. Midfield has been a big problem area this season. Simelane has great attacking flair as a ouside back, but he certainly is no 13. I would seriously consider swapping Pienaar and Simelane. No one has put his hand up for Super Rugby for no12 jumper. Our outside backs, especially Green, have been great on attack. Not sure how they will do on defense and under high ball against good opposition. Spot on regarding the coaching

I agree that we need some players in certain positions. To me the coaching team doesn't seem frail.
We are playing/using the same processes we have been using the past 4 - 5 years, however we have lost almost our whole player personnel. Facts are: 1. Our pack isn't dominating - since 2015 we have lost 4 first choice props, two hookers, 3 starting locks, 4 loose forwards that each can make the starting XV. - Not the coaching team's fault. 2. Our backline sometimes looks flat footed and without plan - Because the forwards don't dominate as they use to, it flows over to our backline play - Not the coaching team's fault. 3. We concede too many tries - maybe part of this can be blamed on the coaching team, but if players keep losing the ball in contact, throw intercept passes, or are not sticking to the defensive structures, you can't blame the coaching team, you have to blame the players. The difference between now and when Ackers started to rebuild the team, is that he had the luxury of not being involved in SR, which gave us the chance to develop our brand of rugby and fine tune it against teams that weren't as good as the SR franchises, or CC teams without their boks. The reality is that you need experienced players in certain positions, which we don't currently have. A prop only usually starts to reach maturity from about 27. Exept for Jacobie, our oldest prop is 24. Our most experienced lock is Orie at 26. If this team (+ the injured players) can stay together for 3 years, and we can sign one or two key players, we will again be a force in SR. Edited by valie - 21-Aug-2019 at 9:10pm |

"The difference between now and when Ackers started to rebuild the team, is that he had the luxury of not being involved in SR, which gave us the chance to develop our brand of rugby and fine tune it against teams that weren't as good as the SR franchises, or CC teams without their boks." "If this team (+ the injured players) can stay together for 3 years, and we can sign one or two key players, we will again be a force in SR."
