Everitt to continue experimenting with Sharks


“It will be exciting playing against a Lions team with a similar style of play, moving the ball around and giving it air,” said captain Lukhanyo Am.

Sharks coach Sean Everitt has named a largely experimental team for Saturday’s Preparation Series match against the Lions in Johannesburg.

Only two Springboks will run out at the start, namely captain Lukhanyo Am and No 8 Sikhumbuzo Notshe.

Two other Boks will play off the bench – prop Thomas du Toit and Curwin Bosch.

New recruit, Siya Kolisi, is still not ready for action after joining from Western Province and the Stormers a month ago.

“This preparation series has been an opportunity for the coaches to test depth, try new combinations and to see what we have,” explained captain Am.

“It’s been beneficial for the squad and helped the coaches make decisions going forward.

“We know what type of team the Lions are and what threats they bring, but this is a game where our focus is on ourselves, trying to master our own DNA and style of play.

“It will be exciting playing against a Lions team with a similar style of play, moving the ball around and giving it air. From our side, we’ll be looking to execute the plan and showcasing our DNA.”

Lions opt for experience

 

Elton Jantjies will lead an experienced Lions team when they host the Cell C Sharks in their second home game of the Preparation Series at Emirates Airline Park on Saturday afternoon.

 

The Lions have given all their players an opportunity during these preparation games and by next week everyone returning to action should also get a run.

 

Fred Zeilinga has been added on the bench while on trial to give him an opportunity to prove himself.

 

Youngster Ngia Selengbe secured a starting berth after catching the eye in the win against the EP Elephants.

 

Kick-off is at 16:15.

He was one of the top try scorers at the Cheetahs the season before we have signed him, but he has since failed to impress.

Ja het vir Rabz Maxwane dopgehou toe hy gespeel het by die cheetahs en hy het my nie erg beindruk nie hy is iemand wat goed afrond maar hy is nie vir my die tipe wat driee maak soos 'n Specman of so tipe vleuel nie dink Tambwe is stukke beter as hy

Beginspan lyk redelik mededingend voorlangs en op 10,12 en 13. Bekommernis is dat daar te veel spelers is wat gekontrakteer word wat min indruk in hulle vorige unies/spanne kom maak (Kriel, Zeilinga, Warner en Swanepel)

So kan seker ook destyds gesê word van Whiteley, Mostert, Skosan, Faf, Marnitz Boshoff, Tecklenburg, Ruan Combrinck, Corne Fourie, Andries Ferreira, Ross Cronje, Schalk van der Merwe, Alwyn Hollenbach, ens.

Tuna, ek sou weer se dat 'n hele paar van die spelers wat jy noem (Fav, Mostert, Tecklenburg, Whiteley, Skosaan, Combrinck en Schalk) beslis groot impak gemaak het op juniors en klub vlak sowel as by die kleiner unies, en dat anders as die ander groot unies, Ackerman dit opgemerk het en aan hulle 'n aanbod gemaak.

Kriel, Zeilinga, Warner aan die ander kant, het al 'n hele paar seisoene die geleendheid gehad om senior rugby te speel, sonder om impak te maak. Swanepoel is nog redelik jonk, maar hy moet meer na die tafel toe bring as sy kanonfoet.
