The Blue Bulls Company are excited to confirm that Jake White has signed on as Director of Rugby and will be officially joining the #BullsFamily effective immediately until the 2023 World Cup.

The former Springbok coach and Rugby World Cup winner assumes the position vacated by Alan Zondagh, who stepped down earlier this year.

White has recently been coaching the Toyota Verblitz in Japan and joins the Vodacom Bulls with over four decades of coaching experience stretching back to the early 1980s. His global experience at the highest levels, particularly in Vodacom Super Rugby as the former head coach of both the Cell C Sharks and Brumbies, will benefit the Vodacom Bulls as they continue to add to their resources.

Blue Bulls Company CEO, Alfonso Meyer, shared his sentiments on White’s impending arrival.

“We are extremely excited with Jake’s decision to join us. His credentials speak for itself and we know his contributions are only going to improve our rugby across the board. Jake’s appointment is yet another step in the right direction as we endeavour to take this brand into a new era. We wish him well in his new role,” said Meyer.

White expressed his eagerness at getting the ball rolling, “The Vodacom Bulls brand has always been a powerhouse in rugby, and respected around the world. There’s a great history and heritage here, and I’m looking forward to adding my contribution to the Bulls’ legacy. The shareholders, Remgro, Patrice Motsepe and the BBRU, together with the staff, have an amazing ambition to not only take the Bulls back to number one, but also re-invent and re-mould the face of rugby in this country.”

White is a straight forward man, and didn’t sugar coat the need to start winning, “We need to re-build a winning culture at Loftus, and that will no doubt bring the fans back to their beloved Loftus Versfeld. This won’t be easy, but we are up for it.”

The former Bok coach is also keen to do his bit to indirectly contribute to the national setup, “It’s no secret that our franchise rugby needs to be strong for the Boks to be strong. I’m looking forward to doing whatever it takes help keep them at number one.”

Either way, die bulls mik hoog. White het sy foute (soos almal maar), maar niemand kan stry hy is 'n massive signing vir hulle.

White is `n tweede Mitchell.

I believe Cash has huge potential, We have some really good names in the coaching team. I believe that there is only one guy that should be replaced. I also think that the GLRU should appoint a DOR. He can align the age group and school boy coaching structures, but above all, give Cash and co a helping hand. Our 2 biggest problem areas are attack, where we just seem to lack penetration. We have lots of possession, but don't seem to know how to turn that into points at the moment. Our second area of concern is still defense. We seem to be able to defend well for periods, then lose structure and fall apart.

Lion4ever, on what basis do you believe that Cash and the rest of our coaching team are good?

They're a bunch of nice guys, yes. Home grown, couple of fan favourite ex players etc. But in terms of results on the field, there hasn't been much to write home about, has there?

Cash managed a CC final in his 2nd year as CC coach. Last year under Julian we had a devastating scrum, and Lemmer did well with the forwards. WW is a great motivator and tactician. Sean Erasmus has a stellar reputation as a school boy coach. Unfortunately Niel seems to be way out of his depth at the moment. What surprises me is that our fitness is not as good as it should be. We have a coaching team that under the right circumstances could develop into a formidable team. However, with the coaching teams relative inexperience and the inexperience we have among the playing staff, it is has turned into the perfect storm that has battered us as a union, team and fans.

So how long would you give this team with the current results, before you start making changes? Do you sacrifice 1 SR season? 2? 2 and hope it'll get better in year 3?

I don't disagree with anything you said. I also like all of them, and I also think they all have potential. BUT I think we need a JW/Eddie Jones/Plumtree/XXXX, a head coach with international experience and a winning track record. Someone who can lead and develop the rest of our inexperienced coaching team (and players of course)

That's why I think a DOR could be the answer. Clearly Cash needs a guiding hand, and someone who can step in when things get a bit rough iro of results

Ok, that could work yes. So instead of firing Cash, just get a DOR to help guide them... But then you need someone like I suggested originally

A DOR seems to be a good suggestion. However I would also like to see some good signings in the playing ranks. We are very thin on good SR players with experience, and here I'm not talking about players past their prime. We could have done with a lock like Jason Jenkins.
