VAN DEN BERG BIDS FAREWELL TO THE LIONS

   Emirates Lions Forwards and Lineouts coach Albert van den Berg has opted not to renew his contract with the Lions Rugby Company.

Van den Berg joined the Johannesburg franchise in September 2021 as the senior team’s forwards mentor and played a key role in the development of exciting youngsters during his time. The 51-capped international will now continue his coaching journey at an undisclosed club.

The Lions Rugby Company (LRC) thanked the former Springbok lock for his services during his time in Doornfontein.

Lions Rugby Company CEO Rudolf Straeuli:

“On behalf of our Chairman Mr Altmann Allers and the LRC board, we would like to thank Albert for his contribution to the team over the past two seasons. He joined us at time when the franchise embarked on our Vodacom United Rugby Championship debut season and later, the EPCR Challenge Cup."

“We wish him and his family all the best as they embark on their next chapter,” he concluded.

	Ek weet nie of Albert regtig so groot verlies is nie, hy was verantwoordelik vir lynstane en mauls, ons mauls is op standaard maar ons lynstane bly 'n swak punt

	Hy het darem goed gedoen hy Griquas. Hy kies ook nie vir PJ Botha nie, wat wel een van die swakste hakkers is in terme van lynstane.

	As voorspeler afrigter dink ek het hy die grootste se wie van 1 tot 8 gekies word. En dis ook nie altyd Botha se skyuld in die lynstane nie, Hakers en die springers as 'n kombinasie gaan saam, en partykeer speel jy maar net teen 'n speler wat goed is met balle steel in die lynstaan, dan is daar nie veel wat jy kan doen nie

	Ek sou die hele lot afrigters wegjaag en met 'n nuwe coach begin. Straueli kan sommer saam hul waai. Verkieslik 'n SA'ner wat oorsee afrig of afgerig het. Laat hy kom oorneem en 1 of 2 jong (cheap) assistants kry. Of gee ou Stonehouse 'n kans Hierdie voort geploeter met Cash moet end kry
