Jasper Weise of Toyota Cheetahs faced a Disciplinary Hearing on Wednesday, November 20 via a video conference and has been banned for three weeks.

A Disciplinary Committee met in Edinburgh to consider the red-card decision against Weise (No 8) of Toyota Cheetahs which was issued in the match against Cardiff Blues on Saturday, November 9, 2019.

The player was shown a red card by Referee Ben Blain under Law 9.20 – Dangerous Play in a ruck or maul. A player must not charge into a ruck or maul. Charging includes any contact made without binding onto another player in the ruck or maul.

The incident occurred in the 14th minute of the Guinness PRO14 Round 6 fixture at Cardiff Arms Park (Cardiff) when the referee deemed the player to have committed an act of foul play against an opponent (No 10, Jason Tovey).

The player accepted that he had committed an act of foul play and that his actions warranted a red card.

After considering all documentation the Disciplinary Committee, comprising of Sheriff Kathrine EC Mackie (Chair), Iain Leslie and Beth Dickens (All Scotland), agreed that the player had committed an act of foul play which warranted a red card. They determined that a mid-range entry point of six weeks was merited. This was reduced by 50 per cent due to mitigating factors including the player’s clean record, obvious remorse and behaviour throughout the hearing.

The Committee therefore banned the player for a period of three weeks and to ensure that meaningful games are covered by this ban, he will be free to play from midnight on Sunday, January 26, 2019.

The player was reminded of his right to appeal.
