Johan Meyer of Zebre Rugby Club faced a Disciplinary Hearing yesterday via video conference and has been banned for two weeks.

A Disciplinary Committee met via video conference to consider the red-card decision against Meyer (No 7) of Zebre Rugby club, which occurred against Glasgow Warriors on Saturday 9 November.

The player was shown a red card by referee Ian Davies (IRFU) under Law 9.12 – a player must not physically or verbally abuse anyone. Physical abuse includes, but is not limited to, biting, punching, contact with the eye or the eye area, striking with any part of the arm (including stiff-arm tackles), shoulder, head or knee(s), stamping, trampling, tripping or kicking.

The incident occurred in the 55th minute of the Guinness PRO14 Round 6 Fixture at Stadio Sergio Lanfranchi where the referee deemed the player to have committed an act of foul play against an opponent (No 5 Scott Cummings). The player pled not guilty.

The Disciplinary Committee, comprising of Sibonile Khoza (Chair, South Africa), Rose Alice Murphy (Ireland) and Wilhelm de Villiers (South Africa) concluded that the player had committed an act of foul play, and that act of foul play warranted a red card and upheld the referees decision.

The Committee deemed the act warranted a low-end entry point of two weeks.

The Committee banned the player for a period of two weeks meaning that he is free to play from midnight on Sunday, November 24, 2019.

The player was reminded of his right to appeal.
