@Leeubok

- RG Snyman (Dink hy sal BAIE goed doen in Lions game plan, dis jammer hy is oppad ierland toe)
- PSDT (Hy sal n yster wees in ons span!)

Interesting trivia:

29 of the 41 players (71'%) listed in the Lions CC squad came through the Lions' Juniors and 28 started their senior careers with the Lions

Compared to
18 out of the 49 players in the Shark squad of 2019 (36%) has started their rugby careers (age group level) in Natal. 16/49 (32%) WP players are home grown. Cheetahs had 11/58 (18%) homegrown players and Bulls had 7/35 (20%)
(not my figures so I can't vouch for them)

We used 35 players in Currie Cup this year...so stats already sounds suspect

Well that list is obviously not correct then...the Lions never announced a Super Rugby or Currie Cup squad in 2019, not sure why, but we used 35 players in the Currie Cup so one would have to assume the 35 players made up our squad

SARU also lists 41 players in the Lions squad, which included injured players. Gianni Lombard, Pikkie de Villiers, PJ Steenkamp, Tyreeq February, Bradley Thain and Morne van den Berg didn't play any games

Yes I checked that list, these guys did not play for us in 2019

PJ Steenkamp
Jo-Hanko de Villiers
Bradley Thain
Morné van den Berg
Tyreeq February
Gianni Lombard

The Lions never named a squad, so not sure where SARU got that list of 41, and that is probably where wikipedia got it.

My concern is that our juniors play for wits and UJ. These teams Will probably never win the varsity cup. Winning at junior level is important for future achievement. We must breed a culture of not just winning , but dominating SA rugby.

If we promote from within , we must assume that we have the better youngsters and then surely, how do we expect them to dominate at senior level if they can’t even reach the play offs at junior level ??

At least many of our youngsters coming through now (into Currie Cup and  Super Rugby) did dominate in the junior Currie Cup competitions and many of them played for the baby boks.
