The sharks side have some dangerous outside backs and pretty bulky loosies, but we should dominate the tight 5.

Met nie Warren Whiteley of Malcolm Marx beskikbaar nie is die agtsteman Kwagga Smith weer Saterdag in Durban teen die Sharks die Leeukoning. Marx word, soos teen die Crusaders, die naweek gerus en Jan-Henning Campher kry sy eerste en groot kans op haker in die beginspan teen die Haaie. Campher, seun van die oud Blou Bul-haker en stut, Lourens Campher is ‘n fissieke haker in die Marx-tradisie en sal saam met Johannes Jonker in die voorry. Kwagga Smith will lead the Emirates Lions at Jonsson Kings Park against the Cell C Sharks on Saturday as Malcolm Marx sits this round out to give Jan-Henning Campher a starting berth.
Campher gets his first start for the Lions since joining at the beginning of the year.
Ross Cronje will undergo a small procedural operation which will keep him out of action for a week.
Player Announcement
The Lions Rugby Company is proud to announce that prop Dylan Smith and loose-forward Vincent Tshituka have both put pen to paper to continue their journey with the Lions until 2021.
Both are local players with Smith having matriculated at King Edward VII School in Johannesburg and Tshituka a former learner of Northcliff High.
Smith represented the Lions at Craven Week in 2011 and 2012 and a year later represented the union at Under 19 level.
The flanker Tshituka only started playing rugby in grade eight at wing. He moved to flank in grade 10 and went on to represent the Lions Academy side in 2016.

Campher looked good the few times he was on the field, I really hope he can make the step up, however Its a pity that we need to rest Marx. I would have given him a rest vs the Canes , this game is just to important being an intra conference game, where denying the sharks log points will be just as important as earning log points for us. Happy that Vermaak is at 8 for the challenge team, If he is fit and in form we must get him back into the S15 side at lock. He looks like a talented player. With Groom starting, we might just finish the game strong when Smit comes on. I dont know why we are benching Sadie?? Surely he must play 55 min and Jonker the last few. Lastly , I hope the Ref wont "overcompensate" by being stricter on the lions this weekend, yes its an all SA derby, but the media reports must be in the back of the mind. We must get a Kiwi ref for the canes game, just to shut everyone up

Met net 4 wedstryde oor in die kompetisie voel ek mens moet nou elke wedstryd jou sterkste span op die veld stoot...so ek dink dis 'n fout om spelers te rus, maar moontlik was ons verplig om Marx te rus. Groom irriteer my grensloos wanneer hy ons balle stadig maak...die opponente hoef nie eers ons balle stadig te maak nie, hy doen dit sommer vir hulle. Balle van rucks in die opponente se 22 moet soos blits gespeel word en dis iets wat hy net nie doen nie.

I missed that we have no 9 on the bench. That is CRAZY,
Groom is useless, now he is going to play for 80 minutes. I've never seen a 9 that deliberately makes the game that slow, I was more optimistic, but without Marx and groom for 80, my hopes are slim. Obviously we have a chance , but we made it very hard for ourselves. I assume Coetzee will cover 9, So Green will have to come on at wing to get some game time.

Sharks is 'n goeie span (nie noodwendig beter as ons nie) en met Bosch op 10 die laaste paar wedstryde lyk hul nog beter, maar hul kom natuurlik van hul loslootjie af. En verder, soos die Waratahs en Highlanders is dit spanne wat by ons lê op die punteleer, so daar is eintlik geen rede dat ons hul nie ook kan wen nie.

Thanks, nie geweet van die twee weke rus reelings vir Bokke nie. Stem dat daar beslis 'n moontlikheid vir 'n wen is, maar ons sukkel die afgelope 2 jaar teen fisiese spanne met hegte en geduldige verdedigings patrone (Saders, Sharks, Stormers). Ons dissipline het die afgelope paar weke (na die Sharks game) heelwat verbeter, terwyl ons aanvalswerk ook verbeter het. Ons sal nogtans drasties moet verbeter op verdediging en om omkeerbesit te verhoed om uitkloprondtes te haal.

Het vanoggend 'n 12 km wedloop in Muldersdrift gedoen, deel van die wedloop was op Ross se plaas, hy was ook daar, sy operasie was 'n melanoom wat hy laat verwyder het.
