Rennie to leave Glasgow Warriors

   Dave Rennie has confirmed he will leave his role as Glasgow Warriors Head Coach at the end of the season, to become the next Head Coach of Australia.

Rennie, who joined the Warriors in 2017 from Super Rugby side the Chiefs, guided his side to the Guinness PRO14 Final at Celtic Park and the quarter-finals of the Heineken Champions Cup last season.

The club came top of its Guinness PRO14 conference in both the 2017/18 and 2018/19 seasons as his attacking, all-court style of play maintained the Warriors’ position as one of the top teams in the competition.

Glasgow Warriors continued to develop exciting young talent during his first two seasons with many going on to secure international honours with Scotland, demonstrated with the selection of 19 players in Gregor Townsend’s Rugby World Cup training squad this summer.

Dave Rennie said: “We’ve loved our time here around great people. It’s been as good as I could have wished for after leaving New Zealand.

“It’s an exciting opportunity to coach at international level and an added bonus that we’ll be a little closer to home, near our kids and grandkids.

“All my focus is on the rest of the season in Glasgow as we strive to be in the mix come play-off time in both comps again.”

Glasgow Warriors Managing Director, Nathan Bombrys, added: “Dave has made a big impact at our club over the last couple of years, including taking us to the Guinness PRO14 Final last season.

“When he leaves at the end of the season, he’ll go with our sincere gratitude and best wishes.

“Before then, we know he will want nothing more than to leave our club on a high achieving more success with Glasgow Warriors in the current season.”

Scottish Rugby Chief Executive Mark Dodson said: “I’d like to thank Dave for the contribution he has made to the development of Glasgow Warriors over the past two seasons.

“He has led a talented playing and coaching group with passion and encouraged the team to express themselves and play positive rugby throughout.

“He enhanced the strong, positive culture at Scotstoun and pushed the team to achieve significant results, playing some outstanding rugby on the way.

“Dave has conducted himself throughout with great professionalism and I know he will want to sign off his time in Glasgow with some silverware. We wish him well for the future.”

	He is a good coach. Hope he can succeed where Deans and Cheika failed.
