The Lions have secured the signature of Springbok Jamba Ulengo, who will make his way to Johannesburg franchise in time for the start of the Currie Cup, reports Demè Lucas

Ulengo will add to the already impressive backline for the Lions when they start building for the 2020 Super Rugby competition.

Ulengo started his rugby in the Free State and was part of the 2005 and 2006 U16 Grant Khomo Week. In 2007 he played in the U18 Academy Week and in 2008 he was part of the Free State U18 Craven Week team.

He played for the Free State in both the U19 and U21 Provincial Championships.

In 2010 and 2012 he was also part of the Shimlas Varsity Cup side.

He was also a prominent member of the SA Sevens side from 2011 to 2014 and also helped the team winning the Gold Medal at the 2013 World Games.

Ulengo came back to fifteens signing with Bulls and played Currie Cup in 2014 for the Blue Bulls and Super Rugby for the Bulls.

He struggled with a knee injury in 2018 and did not play much rugby but was back in action when he signed for the Cheetahs in 2019.

We can expect some more signings as the window has opened for players to make their moves.

Klink of hy in die SuperSport Challenge vir die Cheetahs gespeel het. Ek is nie oortuig dat dit so goeie kopie is nie, hy sal my eers moet oortuig met goeie spel. Klink of hy in die Curriebeker gaan speel vir ons

Stem. Al die SA unies, insluitend die Leeus, sukkel alreeds finansiel. Met swakkerige kontraktering die afgelope twee jaar waar ons geld gemors het op sinnelose kopies, maak hierdie skuif min sin. Gehoop dat ons geleer het.

Mahuza waai ook. Dis dieselfde ou wat die aankope doen, as ek reg is.
Onthou in die tyd toe ons WW, Faf, Rohan ens gekoop het, was daar ook 'n magdom ander ouens wat ons gekontrakteur het, wat nie die cut gemaak het nie, wat toe weer laat gaan is, soos Coenie van Wyk, Mnisi, Fabian Booysen, Lionel Cronje, Bobby de Wee, Victor Sekekete, Ruan Lerm ens. Om kwaliteit spelers te koop, gaan jy ongelukkig moet effens volumes deur die sisteem sit, jy gaan nie net sommer sterre by ander spanne koop nie. Ek is ook nie n Ulengo fan nie, net soos ek nie n Skosan fan was nie, maar hy (Skosan) het my stil gespeel. Ulengo is n groot vleuel wat goed is onder die hoe bal, - waar ons soms tekort geskiet het.
As hy homself in die CC kan bewys, het ek geen probleem daarmee nie.

ek stem nie saam nie. 

Geld is min, ons is under druk. 

Waar jy goeie diepte het (soos wat ons op vluel het), dan kry jy n youngster en jy laat hom leer by Skosan, Dyanti (Soos die geval met green)

Waar jy n tekort aan goeie senior spelers het kan jy koop . Ons moet geld spandeer op ervare slotte , scrummies. 

Ons moet great youngsters kry wat kan leer by die ander ouens.
