Pumas coach Jimmy Stonehouse has been linked with the vacant Bulls job, but he says there has been no contact with the union as yet.

The Bulls are looking for a new coach ahead of the 2019 Super Rugby season following the departure of John Mitchell last month.

Mitchell left Loftus after just one season in charge to take up a position as assistant coach to the England national side ahead of next year's World Cup.

Pote Human has been in charge of the Blue Bulls in the Currie Cup this year, but there has still been no clarity on who Mitchell's replacement will be next year.

"It’s a big opportunity, but there’s been no contact," Stonehouse told SA Rugbymag on Tuesday.

"The only updates I get about the job is through the media.

"If it comes to nothing, I’m more than happy to stick with the Pumas and work on making them a better team."

Current Western Province coach John Dobson and Kings coach Deon Davids have also been linked to the Bulls job.

Stonehouse is obviously the best choice, but if Swys becomes the full time back line coach to Rassie, I would like to see Jimmy as one of our candidates. If I was a Bulls supporter, of the remaining two candidates, I would want Dobson to coach the Bulls. Davids is not my choice of a coach by a long shot.

But as someone who wants the Lions to stay top dog in SA, I would love the Bulls to appoint Davids.

I read somewhere that the Bulls want to appoint their CEO before they appoint the new coach, as they want to make sure that the CEO is involved in the choice of the coach.

I think I also read that somewhere. However, time is running out for them. They should already be finalising preparations for their pre-season for SR next year. Doesn't give the new coach much time to get the team ready.
