HANSEN RETURNS FOR SIGMA LIONS FOR CARLING CURRIE CUP JUSKEI DERBY Sigma Lions speedster Boldwin Hansen will make a welcome return to Carling Currie Cup action when his team faces the Vodacom Bulls at Emirates Airline Park on Wednesday evening. Hansen
last featured against the Cell C Sharks nearly a month ago in a match which saw him registered a five-pointer for his side.
It’s a first start of the season for exciting loose-forward Lindo Ncusane who’ll combine with Mark Snyman and the in-form Wits and former Lions U19 captain Cal Smid in the backrow.
The halfback pairing of Ginter Smuts and James Tedder, who did duty last week against the Griquas, will have the responsibility of steering the Lion’s attack against a determined Bulls
outfit.
Head Coach Mziwakhe Nkosi believes this year’s competition theme has been about providing young players the opportunity to launch their careers.
“History has shown time and time again that the Currie Cup has earned many players call-ups to international club competitions and national honours,” explains Nkosi.
“We’ve consistently backed our youngsters within our system, and this is something we’ve been bold about from the start of our campaign,” he adds.
“We’ll be up for it tomorrow against a very good Bulls side. There are a few guys in the match 23 who’ll be eager to impress and make the most of the opportunity,’ he concludes.

Lizo Gqoboka will lead an exciting Vodacom Bulls side that will take on the Sigma Lions in a Carling Currie Cup clash in Johannesburg on Wednesday. The Vodacom Bulls on Tuesday announced a youthful team, with Gqoboka as the captain, that will travel south of the Jukskei for the domestic derby at Emirates Airline Park. “We are very fortunate to have a number of players with great leadership qualities in the Vodacom Bulls squad, and Lizo has been one of those senior players who have always provided leadership in both the Carling Currie Cup and the Vodacom URC. We look forward to him, alongside Stedman Gans as vice-captain, leading this exciting team on Wednesday,” said Vodacom Bulls head coach, Gert Smal. “We are pleased that we are able to give a few of our more youthful players an opportunity this week, be it in the starting lineup or on the bench. “We have no doubt that we have a tough challenge ahead of us against a Sigma Lions team that will be motivated and will be tough opponents on Wednesday night. We will need to be at our best and will need to execute the plans we have been working hard on in the build-up to the match well.” The match will kick off at 20h00 on Wednesday and will be televised on SuperSport. | Kom ons hoop die manne fokus op die basiese dinge, beperk foute soos aanslane en om strafskoppe af te staan en duikslae te mis. Hier is ook regtig nie groot name in die Bulle se span nie so as mens jou foute beperk moet jy tog 'n kans staan |

Lyk nie te dronk sover nie. As Hansen die bal gepass het ipv daai simpel skoppie, was dit 7 elk en nie 14 - 0 nie. Van daai omkeerbesit het die bulle gaan druk. Ginter het net te veel balle weggeskop.

| Kyk, om 40-10 te verloor is nooit goed nie. Tog, vir groot gedeeltes van die eerste helfde was hulle kompeterend en het die Bulle weerhou om te score. Na die rits beserings en die eerste geel kaart, was die skrif aan die muur, alhowel hulle hard probeer het (selfs met 14 man vir 25 minute) |

Nie om te se Nkosi kan nie ontwikkel in 'n great coach nie, maar hy moes dalk nog meer kans gegee geword het by die juniors. Wow, dit is impressive. En hy is nie 'n nobody nie, world cup winning assistant coach tussen 'n klompie ander groot trofees. Een ding wat ek begin optel het die laaste paar jaar in SA Rugby is dat daar nie meer so baie van daardie moerse groot ego's is nie. Spelers en afrigters is bietjie meer down to earth deesdae, met obvious uitsonderings hier en daar. By die Lions fan day in 2020 (voor lockdown) was dit so verfrissend om die spelers so tussen die ondersteuners te sien loop, met sommige van die spelers wat na mense toe gaan en sommer net met hulle begin praat oor enige snert, was 'n lekker ervaring gewees. Jannie Du Plessie en Willem Alberts het veral my asem weggeslaan daardie dag - en dit was 2 ouens wat altyd vir my gelyk het of hulle ego's het. ------------- Go LIONS!!!!! |

Stem …ek dink die unie se beplanning was baie swak rondom die Curriebeker … maar by gesê beserings het ook n baie groot rol gespeel As daar nie so baie beserings was nie kon ons van die begin af n decent Curriebeker span gekies het ( wat nou al as n span kon saam speel)…. Maar ek dink die unie het vooraf besluit om 0/21 te speel, wat nie gewerk nie nou moet hulle elke week iemand anders speel |
