Stating the obvious.LOL

I was looking at the varsity cup coaches,

Crazy to think that most of the varsities have better coaches than we have as a URC team.

I mean , Andre Pretorius is a lions man, surely he would be better serving the lions vs pukke !!

Swys Se Bruin is an assistant to the Shimlas.

UJ has Jonathan Mokwena , sure , not “the best” , but he has a decent track record with pukke .

Cash is literally a fitness coach for crying out load !!

It’s called the Peter Principle, when someone is promoted beyond their capabilities. Cash is a prime example , but the lions management are like ostriches with their heads in the sand . It’s a bloody disgrace.

Having said all that , I hope we win today and will support the players

I’ve tried not to watch too much rugby . As I would lose my sanity.

I couldn’t watch this crap to the end (this is coming from someone that didn’t mis a game , ever) .

It’s sad , again . I don’t blame the players , or cash . It’s the management.

The situation is MUCH worse than we think and if we don’t wake up , it will be the end of Transvaal and the lions.

And I’m specially mentioning Transvaal as we have so much history.

But we Northern Transvaal has consistently done better.

SA rugby should either help , or just close the franchise and give the spot to the free state.

Then we can all pick a new team to support.

Leinster is volgende boys.

Julle moet jul span ondersteun.

Stormers Coach after URC match vs Lions on 12 February 2022

We need only one sentence during the post match question session for this mess to stop, seeing that the denial train is circulating the Park and it goes something like this: "question to the Head Coach: Cash, it is abundantly clear that you are in over your head, why dont you step back out of free will?"

But of course this is unlikely, the poor Journalist will be banned for life and there will not be a flood of career opportunities left for Cash. Sadly is seems as if this Circus will keep on playing to the same disasterous tune...

That Cash is not up to the task is plain to see, but even if he resigns tomorrow, we have massive problems with poor and rudderless leadership at the the top, poor financial backing, no succession planning, piss poor contracting, hardly any standard systems in place for players to progress from junior to curry cup to international level etc. etc. In any case, this is only sport, and the way things are going in this country we will have far bigger problems to worry about in a year or two than the performance of our sports teams.

You are right but if he resigns the hands of those that is currently so reluctant to act might be forced. The assistant coaches e.g Fourie will be able to step up into the Head Coach role. Lets be honest, how much worse can it get?

Well I am honestly not sure whether Jaque Fourie is that good at coaching either. I can show many clips of yesterday's game where there was only a first line of defence and no secondary line, while our scramble defence was also not up to scratch (although scramble defence does admittedly depend on player effort so the last point isn't entirely his fault, though it is up to him to motivate the guys).

A change is definitely needed and yes, probably anyone with some head coaching experience will do better than Cash. Ackerman was a fluke, let's face it. Maybe Fourie will do well, but why leave the future of our union up to a gamble? Let's get someone in with head coaching experience who has proven to do well. There aren't probably that many international/world class quality coaches willing to come to the GLRU (let's be honest), but then look at what we can get.

Like Niela said Stonehouse & Pretorius are two options. Maybe beg Swys or Johan Ackerman to come back and offer them one hell of a paycheck. Dave Wessels is still not employed (as far as I am aware). Heck, even go to SARU and beg them to assist with some coaches from their high performance unit. Get some consultants in like Brendan Venter, etc etc.

But all our management does is sit back and accept their pay, while not even seeming like they care about what is going on.

I believe Stonehouse is our answer, I have asking for a few years now why has the GLRU not approached him... if it turns out that he has been approached but declined the job then we have a much much bigger problem than any of us realize, because if the headcoach of a "small" union like the Pumas is not interested in stepping up to fill the role at what is supposed to be one of the big "flagship" unions then we are dead and waiting to be buried

This should of happened when Ackers left, but we were riding a high and now we are here today. Swys leaving was unplanned and resulted in somebody being promoted within the structures, to ease things, but come on, there is something that keeps on biting who ever steps into the role. We need to start clearing from the top and getting the right people in place. If we don't, we can forget about it going better ever again.

Look at the Bulls, they rode the high from HM, then Frans took over with the same core, continues winning and eventually he fell out of the bus, poor management, contracting, broederbond etc.  Step in Nollis/Pine/Mitchell, same story. Change management, got house in order, got sponsors, got coaches and now players also.

Cash was always just n temporary thing , to help assist with Swys dealing with his personal issues.

I still think we would have done (much) better if Swys had stayed.

But we threw out the baby , the bath water and the bath.

I can only wonder how Altmann can allow this ,his investment must be worthless and clearly he isn’t going to throw more money in.

We need proper financial backing , or we won’t compete.

Hence my comment on SA rugby swapping us for the cheetahs , commercially it just feels more viable.

Point is , if we don’t change things with haste , we are in deeeeeeep sh!t
