Jacques Nienaber is reportedly in the inside lane to become the next head coach of the Springboks.

Current coach Rassie Erasmus has already announced that he will step down as head coach to instead focus on his Director of Rugby role at SA Rugby.

The new coach will report directly to Erasmus and according to Netwerk24, current defence coach Nienaber is the likely candidate to step into the head coaching role.

Erasmus and Nienaber have a long history, having first met in the army before crossing paths at the University of the Free State's Shimlas team where Nienaber was the physiotherapist and Erasmus the captain.

When Erasmus became coach of the Free State Cheetahs, he appointed Nienaber as strength and conditioning coach, with the latter later shifting his focus to the team's defensive structures.

Nienaber followed Erasmus to the Stormers and also Munster in Ireland, before starting at the Springboks last year.

South Africa's World Cup win was built on a staunch defensive structure and for that Nienaber deserves credit.

Same game plan for the next 4 years, and mostly the same players. Sad to think that the Lions players aren't good enough to fit into the game plan of the Bokke.

This will be excellent for the Bokke!!!!!!!! Hopefully Rassie willnow have more time on his hands to spend at the franchises...specifically the Lions....as we need some (uhum alot) of his guidance and input to help our promising young coaches.

I also dont know how many of you watched yesterday's Masterplan on SS1. Swys, Plumtree and Deon Davids was on the show. Swys said he had a few differences of opinion with Rassie about being more attacking and Swys said he is glad it eventually came in the WC Final. Not sure if these differences were what caused Swys to decide to leave the Bokke, it didnt however seem to make him bitter towards the Bokke from what I saw yesterday.

Deon Davids also gave a lot of his input on the show and he actually seems like a knowledeable and passionate coach, in my opinion.

Go LIONS!!!!!
