Lions coach Swys de Bruin experienced some anxious moments before his team edged out the Waratahs 29-28 in their tense Super Rugby encounter at Ellis Park on Saturday. With each team scoring four tries, the Lions held on to settle in a wildcard eighth position in the build-up to the play-offs. “After what happened on tour [to Australasia recently] we had a lot of trials and tribulations, and it was a challenge,” De Bruin said. “We also had a bye, and that’s not always a good thing.” He discussed dealing with the wrath of a spectator after choosing not to go for posts late in the game. “You roll the dice, but there was a fan running in front of me shouting ‘are you mad, kick for the posts’, and that’s the emotional reaction you get,” he said. “We were one point ahead and we didn’t exit well all day. It was one of our weaknesses, but when pressure builds, field possession becomes vital.” Though he had to manage some players who were battling with illness, De Bruin lauded the impact from the bench, with reserve prop Dylan Smith playing a key role. “Props Carlu Sadie and Johannes Jonker [on the bench] were battling with flu, so we had to box clever by deciding when to take them off and when to send them on. We just had to stay in the fight.” Waratahs coach Daryl Gibson, meanwhile, bemoaned the high penalty count dished out by referee Egon Seconds, though he also credited the Lions for a sound scrumming display. “We absorbed a lot of pressure and I felt some calls just didn’t go our way,” Gibson said. “The penalty count was 13-3 against us, and the Lions put out some good scrum pressure, but with a penalty count like that against you, it’s tough to gain any momentum.” |

Wow, klink baie goed! Is baie bly die ou Vorster is terug En baie goed dat ons so min strafskoppe afgestaan het. Is dit omdat ons dissipline so goed was of het Seconds probeer opmaak vir die WP game?

| Die een lopie van Vorster wat tot Kwagga se drie gelei het was eintlik vreemd, hy het heeltemal dwars oor die veld gehardloop, feitlik reguit na die kantlyn en toe hy naby die kantlyn kom is daar 2 voorspelers van die Waratahs wat daar verdedig, en hy is toe tussen hulle twee deur. Die rugbykenner sal se dat hy eintlik verkeerd was om so skuins te hardloop. |

Het ons dan nie enige balle gesteel nie? Dit is heel snaaks want tot dusver het ons baie daarop gefokus dat Marx/Schoeman/Kwagga ens balle steel by die rucks |

Hoekom het ons verdedigjngs probleme ..... van julle weet mos van coaching ..... ek is self nie n kenner nie maar saterdag op die park wil dit vir my voorkom asof ons te maklik op die swaarder spelers vetrou om die verdedigings lyn op te maak as n span bv links speel en dan reg gaan.die swaarder spelers is nie geneig om die binne aangee te verdedig nie ..... ek voel ons commit te veel agterspelers op die bal om skoon te maak .... as dit enigsins sin maak Drie van hulke driee was regtig sagte driee

Ironies genoeg dink ek dit was juis goeie verdediging wat vir ons op einde die game gewen het. Swak 1ste helfte. Met die 2de helfte paar verstellings gemaak en slegs 7 pte afgestaan. Warren en Kwagga het paar fantastiese duikslae gemaak as die lyn gebreek word (iets wat Duane noot sal kan regkry met sy huidige fiksheid vlakke...en dit was duidelik vry aand want daar was geen corss defence deur die 8 as bulle se lyn gebreek word). Tyrone Green het ook baie goeie try saving tackle ingesit.
