Ulster travelling squad confirmed for South Africa trip

Head Coach, Richie Murphy, has named a 30-player squad who will travel to South Africa to play Emirates Lions and Vodacom Bulls over the next two weekends in the BKT United Rugby Championship.

Ulster take on the Lions this Saturday in Round 2 at Emirates Airline Park. (KO: 11.55AM UK/ IRL TIME)

The following weekend, the province will head to Pretoria to take on Vodacom Bulls at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Saturday 5th October. (KO: 3PM UK/ IRL TIME)

Hooker, Tadgh McElroy, has joined the province on a short term injury cover basis and travels with the squad.

The former Ireland U20s hooker spent last season with Connacht and has also played for Saracens, Bedford Blues, Bristol Bears, London Irish and Leinster.

Was 'n baie goeie game van ons en 'n goeie wen om die seisoen mee te begin. Eerste keer wat ons uiteindelik vir Ulster kon wen!!! Is 'n groot oomblik teen 'n goeie span.

Volgende week se game is net so belangrik en 'n moet wen weereens as ons die top 8 wil maak hierdie seisoen.

Mens kan bekostig om 8 te verloor as jy in die top 8 wil eindig, maar hoe langer mens kan aanhou wen, hoe beter (natuurlik)

Edinburgh het laasjaar actually ook nie top 8 gemaak nie en hulle het met11 wenne opgeëindig, al was dit hoofsaaklik oor min bonuspunte.

Maar ja, soos mens kan sien met die weg verlore van die Stormers en Sharks teen relatiewe "makliker" spanne, besef mens hoe belangrik is dit om die tuis games amper almal te wen (waarvan 9 in totaal is). Hierdie 9 tuis games, sluit die 3 teen die SA spanne in waar ons tradisioneel meer verloor as wen.

Dan neem mens dit in ag dat van ons 9 weg games vanjaar teen spanne soos Munster, Leinster en soos gewoonlik die Bulle, Sharks en Stormers insluit, sien mens dit is al hoe meer belangrik om tuis te wen.

Edinburgh is ook in dieselfde groep as ons natuurlik wat laasjaar net net uitgemis het, so mens wil ook dan so veel as moontlik punte van hulle weghou om ons dan te help om bo hulle te eindig.

All in all, na ek al my somme gedoen het, word dit baie duidelik dat hierdie game een van die belangrikste games van ons seisoen gaan wees as ons in die top 8 wil eindig.
