Springbok flank Jaco Kriel will return home to South Africa after a shoulder injury has ruled him out of Saturday’s vital Castle Lager Rugby Championship Test against the All Blacks in Auckland.

The industrious flanker complained of a shoulder problem after the drawn match in Perth last Saturday. His condition did not improve since then and he was sent for a scan on Monday afternoon in Auckland.

The scan revealed that Kriel, who has formed a formidable loose trio combination with Siya Kolisi and Uzair Cassiem in recent weeks, had sustained a labrum tear. Springbok team management has confirmed that no replacement will be called as the team has sufficient loose forward cover.

Meanwhile, prop Wilco Louw arrived in Auckland late on Monday night as replacement for the injured Coenie Oosthuizen, who returned home with a broken arm following the drawn Test in Perth.

This is a massive loss to the boks, while all the hype has been centered on Kolisi I feel that Jaco has been the real standout player.

Ek verstaan dit ook nie dat daar soveel hype gemaak word oor Kolisi nie. Moet my nie verkeerd verstaan nie, hy het n goeie game gehad weereens. Maar Jaco was vir my besiger en was my man of the match. Kolisi was in die begin baie stil, maar het n paar keer ouens goed opgeline en agter die voordeel lyn geduik.

Maar ja hy is deesdae SA se nuwe "darling"..

Jaco may not be the biggest, but he brings massive physicality to the game, and he was a colossus at the break down on Saturday. Kolisi also had a great game, and deserves the praises he is getting. However, if I had to choose who played better on Saturday, I would tip my hat towards Jaco. But then again, I think 99% of the bloggers here have red tinted glasses.
