The B Section of the SA Rugby Women’s Interprovincial competition will spring into full swing this weekend as the remaining six teams battling it out for the title take to the field for the first time this season.

The Griffons will host SWD in Welkom on Friday, and on Saturday the Leopards meet 2018 finalists, the Golden Lions, in Potchefstroom, while Griquas take on the Free State in Springbok. The Pumas and Limpopo Blue Bulls kicked off the eight-team B Section last week, with the Mpumalanga outfit emerging victorious.

Free State, SWD, the Griffons and Griquas will battle it out in Group 1 of the B Section this season, and the Limpopo Blue Bulls, Golden Lions, Leopards and Pumas in Group 2, with the top team in each of the two groups advancing to the B Section final.

In Welkom, SWD will have their sights set on their third successive victory against the Griffons after dominating their clashes in the last two seasons. In both outings the George side scored more than 28 points, but Griquas will have the extra motivation of making up for a winless season last year when they take to the field.

The Golden Lions have also had the Leopards’ number in the last few years, with the Potchefstroom side going down in all three match-ups between them in the last three years. This, however, is expected to fuel the Leopards’ motivation going into the clash, and more so since their only defeat last year was against their Jozi neighbours.

The clash between Griquas and the Free State, meanwhile, will mark the first time the teams meet since 2016, as the women from Bloemfontein played in the A Section in the last two seasons. Both teams had torrid 2018 seasons, going down in all of their matches, which will fire up their hunger to experience that winning feeling once again.

SA Rugby Women’s Interprovincial B Section fixtures:

Friday, 26 July

13h30: Griffons v SWD – HT Pelatona Projects Stadium, Welkom

Saturday, 27 July

12h30: Leopards v Golden Lions – Olën Park, Potchefstroom

14h00: Griquas v Free State – Concordia Sports Ground, Springbok
