Following a successful consultation process, Dragons Rugby is pleased to announce the region has reached an agreement with its playing squad regarding salaries.

In a bid to meet the financial challenges of the upcoming 2020/21 season, the players have agreed amended terms to their contract and a 25% reduction in salary over the next 12 months.

David Buttress, Chairman at Dragons Rugby, said: “We have been committed to a collaborative approach throughout this process and, on behalf of the Board, I thank the players for their combined efforts in agreeing a resolution that will ensure our business continues to move forward.

“We are extremely proud of how our playing group have conducted themselves during this difficult period.”

Dragons now look forward to returning to action against our regional rivals and completing the 2019/20 season over the coming weeks.

this generic 10%, 20% pay cuts companies implement is a  complete load of crap.

In any company there are many people that earn well above the mean and below the mean (for similar positions or responsibilities)

Point is , people are over and under paid. This was a chance to fix that by applying larger pay cuts to people out of line with their position.

Once you cut someone that is already underpaid , they will just leave when the first opportunity comes. People that know they’re overpaid , can’t go anywhere and will absorb the cuts

In the lions case , I would rather cut Janine du Plessis by 50% , vs expecting someone like Carly Sadie taking one
