The Lions have put contract negotiations with Springbok flyhalf Elton Jantjieson hold, a report indicates. According to Rapport, this was after Jantjies was involved in an early morning incident in a Durban hotel three weeks ago. Following the Lions' 27-17 defeat to the Sharks at Kings Park on May 25, Jantjies is believed to have left their hotel for an unauthorised night out. According to the report in the Afrikaans newspaper, Jantjies only returned back to the hotel between 04:00 and 04:30 the Sunday morning, and upon his return bumped into Lions CEO Rudolf Straeuli in the foyer. In response to the incident - and rumours that Jantjies had disregarded captain Kwagga Smith's calls on the field - the Lions retracted their new contract offer to Jantjies. In the following weeks, Jantjies was dropped and then benched for games against the Stormers and Hurricanes, with the Lions citing a breach of team protocol as reason for his omission. Straeuli declined to confirm or deny the incident and refused to comment on contract negotiations between the Lions and Jantjies. |

Het hierdie so paar dae terug gesien. Ek dink nie enige span sal n speler se kontrak opskeur oor 1 aand se gejol nie. Ek wonder of die unie nie dink dit is tyd om aan te beweeg met n nuwe losskakel?

Dink so.... Ek dink eintlik maar sy tyd is verby. So goed soos hy kan wees is hy nie konstant genoeg nie en het ons al baie games gekos.

It will be sad if this is the reason Elton loses his contract with the Lions.
It should be on a mutual agreement, and not a punishment.

Being a found guilty as a sex offender is OK, but don't get caught cumming late from a late night jol.

Elton is always contentious.
We've had a small pack with very little go forward all year. Most fly halves would look very bad going backwards. Elton fared reasonably well considering how we got bullied upfront this year. I feel for Elton , he gets a lot of criticism and mentally that must take its toll. Most of our games we were chasing the game , coming back from being down. That's not easy , everyone looks at the 10 to spark something. His game vs the highlanders was actually brilliant , that's also the one game where I feel we dominated their young forwards. Rugby is a 15 man game , its about cohesion and momentum. One change somewhere has a massive impact somewhere else. We have bigger problems to solve before we start looking at our 10: - Faster ruck recycling - Ball retention in general - 9's that read the game (When to pass to the 10, speed up or slow down) - Forwards that generate gain-line success - Defensive structure , man on man defense, Scramble defense. - Exit play from our 22 (We improved in the latter part of the season, but it cost us games early) |

I have chatted to other (more junior than the CEO) employees and they don't support Joey at all, in fact they share my view that he should have been sacked

Our loose trio is a bit unbalanced. We need a player with the bulk that Cyle Brink offers. Kwagga, Marnus and even James Venter are fantastic players, very strong, and with low centers of gravity, hard to bring down, but lack some heft. So if you have 2 of them on the field, we need a 3rd loosie who is a bit bigger, and can add some bulk. While Warren is not exactly small, and nor are Vincent or Hacjivah, their games are not exactly suited to the rough stuff at rucks and mauls. Come scrum time, we more than held our own this season, and if we can retain the likes of Sadie, Jonker, Sti etc, we are well set for future. In a way I am glad that MM is taking a sabbatical after the WC. We need our back up hookers to come through. Groom could read the game, but was very slow in clearing the rucks. Ross is a good, calm no 9 who knows how to speed up or slow the game down, but is not an unpredictable player. Dillon(?) is very much in the same mould. Hopefully we will see more of Thain this CC. He is more in the Faf mould, which suits our style of play. Reynolds is a good player but I prefer him at center. Lombard is a great option for us at 10 if he gets over his injury quickly. We lack a bruising, bulky center. Players like Vorster are more rapier like, but with rush defences, we need a strong ball carrier that can gain meters with defenders hanging on. We have great wings, but we do need back up for Boeboes. Mahuza is good, but we need someone who can fill in if both are unavailable. Edited by Lion4ever - 18-Jun-2019 at 1:56pm |

With a serious moral and legal issue such as this, a suspension until the accused as been legally cleared would have been the logical "no brainer" decision to have made

Stem 100%!!

@Lions4Ever
Agreed, our loosies are good, but the balance is the issue. Especially when you dont have an enforcer at lock. The Sous and Ferreira combo worked very well, we got away with lighter loosies, but now poor malcolm marx had to be our 2 , 7 and 6. Just not sustainable. Our scrums were SOLID. There I give credit to Julian, I think he did a great job. Especially considering how we got bullied in open play. If we can get a decent lock combo and a bulkier 8. We will be a different team. I also agree on Ross, he has his critics, but I don't mind him. He is low risk, which is better when you already have Elton at 10. I think Green is the backup for Boeboes. Combrink could have been that guy, but he has been shocking, which is really sad. Combrink should be given a go at 12 in my view. He struggles to defend out wide, but I reckon he could be a sizable 12 and with a bit of form , can be very dangerous on attack as well. |

Hmm, I like that idea of Commies at 12! But I do wonder how he played in the supersport challenge at 15? It just feels like such a waste to not have him in the super rugby squad. We all know what he can do..
