I think the teams for this game will definitely be largely "B" sides, with a couple of senior players returning from from injury featuring off the bench. The double header down in Newlands will probably have a few more first choice players featuring.
I think warm up games are more of a trial match for fringe players.

As ek reg kan onthou het ons die laaste 3 jaar maar swak gedoen in ons opwarmingswedsstryde, so ek sal nie veel in die uitlae van die wedstryde lees nie. Die Bul ondersteuners sal natuurlik dink hulle span het klaar die SA konferensie gewen as hulle ons saterdag klop.

Dis oor ons nooit meer die top ouens in die opwarmingswedstryde gebruik nie. Ek sou eerder se as mens nie jou top ouens gaan gebruik nie, moet dan eerder nie eers opwarmingswedstryde speel nie

Watched by among others Springbok captain Warren Whiteley – who’s back from his stint in Japan and fit to lead the team in Super Rugby this season – the Lions warmed up for the competition with a convincing 66-22 win against neighbours the Bulls at Ellis Park on Saturday.

Up front former Pumas flank Marnus Schoeman, who can also play at hooker, showed he will be a good addition to the Lions squad in the coming weeks.

None of the Lions’ regulars, like Andries Coetzee, Rohan Janse van Rensburg, Harold Vorster, Elton Jantjies, Ross Cronje, Franco Mostert, Andries Ferreira and Malcolm Marx were considered for the outing, with De Bruin opting to keep them fresh for the team’s opener against the Sharks.

Also, many of these players are only expected back in Joburg this coming week after wrapping up their commitments in Europe and Japan.

For the record, the Lions scored 10 tries through Willie Engelbrecht, Marvin Orie, Manny Rass, Aphiwe Dyantyi, Jo-Hanco de Villiers, Gianni Lombard, Tambwe, Tian Meyer, Louis van der Schyff and Reynolds.

daar was groot opgewondeheid te die bulle die leeus laas jaar gewen het in n warm up

Dit is altyd 'n catch 22. Speel jy jou "beste" span in hierdie opwarmings wedstryde loop hul die risiko om beseer te raak nog voor die seisoen begin. Aan die ander kant kan hul baie verroes wees kom super rugby as hul nie saam gespeel het nie..

Ek dink die oorgrote meerderheid van ons span ken mekaar so goed hulle het nie nodig om opwarmings wedstryde te speel nie. Sal beter wees om die fringe ouens speelkans te gee

Hy speel vir Roodepoort se eerste span. Alwyn Hollenbach is die afrigter daar.

It happens actually quite often, for example Jaco Taute, etc.

Then some players keep getting a free ride, ala Jean De Villiers, after it happens, thanks mainly to their reputation.

Just surprized, last I heard he was moving to the Kings or being loaned to them and now he is out of the system all together... If I am not mistaken, he is still quite young, so just surprized that he has not been contracted by anybody? Cant believe that he has lost so much form that he cant even make the Kings's side.

He is only 29 years old. We can only speculate.
