Griquas produced a clinical, if one-sided power play from their forwards to overpower and swamp a hapless EP Elephants side with a 43-0 win on Wednesday night.

The Biltongboere didn’t need an expansive game plan as they pulverised the EP side up front, and ensured forward dominance to such an extent that the only discussion was how big the scoreline would be at the end of the 80 minutes.

The Elephants did themselves no favours by receiving their third red card in three games when Rian Arends got his marching orders for stamping and the discipline in general was nothing short of that of a club side fighting above their weight.

In short it is hard to find positives for the Elephants, whose main aim seemed to be trying to keep the scoreline down and are hopelessly out of their depth.

If this is the baseline they need to start from, then coach Peter de Villiers desperately needs help because the current crop of players is simply going to rack up points against them and elicit arguments of more harm than good in the current Kick Off series.

A penalty try and a hat-trick from Griquas hooker HJ Luus sealed matters, while Gideon van der Merwe added two tries to the tally. James Verity-Amm got his name on the scoresheet as well.

But other than a high penalty count and a lopsided scoreline there was little to write home about.
